Why it’s under review
The UK government has launched a formal review into headlight glare after widespread concern from motorists about overly bright lights. Surveys show that around nine in ten drivers feel that some headlights are simply “too bright”.
Modern LED headlights and the higher driving position of SUVs are both contributing factors. Misaligned beams, aftermarket bulb upgrades, and the sheer intensity of newer lighting systems can make night driving uncomfortable and, in some cases, unsafe.
